Hack For Cleaning Makeup Brushes

We all know we should do it regularly, but in reality cleaning our makeup brushes is a chore that often we neglect.

It seems like we aren’t the only ones who detest the faff that comes with washing your brush set, as there is a minimal effort hack that has gone viral on the internet.

The MakeupAddiction Reddit thread is a well known go-to source of beauty knowledge and it has thrown up another gem of a tip that was first picked up by Revelist.

The Reddit user shared a genius tip for washing makeup brushes, and it involved a washing machine.

She wrote:

“People are going to be horrified by this, but I put my brushes in the washing machine. I pre-soak them in a soapy solution to start the product breaking down, put them in a pillowcase, tie it shut and wash them all at once on a warm/delicate/no spin cycle. They come out spotless and I haven’t had one fall apart yet.”

She added that her usual technique is to wash them in a couple of towels to minimise any damage.

If a brush falls apart she puts it down to “natural selection”.

If you’re going to try this.. You have to still pre-soak all your brushes, find a spare pillowcase you’re cool with getting wet and covered in excess makeup, AND use an entire delicate spin cycle JUST for your brushes. That’s a lot for a water bill.

Unless you’ve got a gazillion brushes, it probably takes the same amount of effort just to hand scrub them in your own sink and lay them out flat to dry — it’s far less damaging that way, anyway.

We’re intrigued. Perhaps we’ll test this out with some cheaper brushes in our collection before throwing the penny ones in the wash.
