May Salon Marketing Ideas

‘April showers bring May flowers!’ You’ve heard it before and we hope it does since the wedding and festival season is just around the corner. May salon marketing ideas are fun because of the wide variety of angles to choose from. Brands around the world will start hopping on the wagon of ‘getting in shape in time for swimsuit season,’ but did you know that May is also has some National Days. So let’s have a look at a few marketing strategies you can use throughout the upcoming month.

Skin Cancer Awareness Month: 1st-31st May 2018

On Social Media
  • Raise awareness within your community with a month-long campaign. Create posters, graphics, and get in front of the camera for educational videos!

On Your Salon’s Premises
  • Product Samples: Align your social media campaign efforts with some in-salon offers and promotions! Give SPF products samples away and talk about skin cancer awareness during client consultations. Even offer to pre-book a treatment before your customer’s holiday!

SMS & Email Marketing
  • Similar to your social media campaign, raise awareness about the issue and link any treatments, products or offers within your messages.
  • Targeting clients going on holidays: Take notes and jot down when some of your customers are going on holiday. Target these customers with a special sun prevention treatment 1-2 weeks before they head out of the country.

May Day Bank Holiday: 7th May 2018

Special Promotions
  • Day Getaway: Think about what your customers could be doing on the bank holiday and what you could offer them. A short break offer, a spring/pre-summer themed menu or a special treatment or package?

National Women’s Health Week: 13th-19th May 2018

On Social Media
  • A competition: Ask clients to track their steps, water intake or other healthy activities. Host the competition for a week and ask for photo of the achievement. The highest number wins a package or hamper, extra TreatCard points or a complimentary treatment. Don’t forget to use a branded #hashtag for the competition!
  • Spread the word: Ask clients to share their healthy-selfies and share some inspiring quotes!

On Your Salon’s Premises
  • Hosting a potluck/swap party: Set a day to arrange a healthy potluck or lunchtime treat for lunch break appointments.
  • Team-bonding: Treat your staff and organise a free yoga or Zumba class during the week for some fun!

National Senior Health & Fitness Day: 30th May 2018

On Social Media
  • Run a contest: Have a competition on Facebook or Instagram (like & share / like & comment) and offer an ‘X’ amount or % off treatments, redeemable when a client comes in with their grandmother or grandfather.

The Start Of Wedding Season

Weddings are a perfect opportunity for every salon/spa business. Below we focus on using social media to engage customers, market your services and provide inspiration for looks!

  • Attend and display at local shows
  • Offer pre-wedding trial runs
  • Reach out to bridal magazines, introduce yourself and your services, and possibly pay for advertising
  • If you don’t do make-up, but do hair (and vice versa), try to establish a relationship with an MUA or a salon who specialise in that and cross-promote each other
  • Set yourself up for onsite services (something to consider as an additional branch to your salon/spa)
  • Hire a photographer to capture the behind-the-scenes of your salon’s bridal activity and use the photos for social media advertising, print publications and/or a lovely email souvenir follow-up for your client (or take your own photographs)

Train in a new treatment and start promoting the new treatments, services and packages, leaving couples, brides and bridal parties, ample time to book in before their important day.

Wedding Portfolio:

You might not have all the photos you’d need to create a full photobook just yet. So just start building a book of the looks you create in preparation for later on in the year (around August, September). If you already have a lot of ‘wedding-inspired looks,’ then create a portfolio (photobook) and use it to promote your services in your salon and online.

Integrate Flowers:

Wedding season, as well as the festival season, calls for using flowers in your marketing. They could easily be showcased in your salon, or perhaps you could even reach out to a local florist and work out a seasonal partnership.

The Month Of Mobile:

Setup and promote Online Bookings. If you’re not providing a mobile option for your clients already, you’ve got to get up to speed. Being online (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat) isn’t enough anymore! With everyone’s lives getting more and more fast-paced, it’s important to provide your customers with alternative ways to book when they can’t ring or drop by your salon. Salons that offer online bookings make more money than those who don’t.

Provide an ‘Open 24/7′ option on multiple platforms to avoid missing customers. With wedding season kicking off, people going on holidays or attending festivals, let’s make May the month of mobile: website responsiveness, salon app, online booking, etc. With just a few clicks, you can increase revenue and customer satisfaction.
